It's been a while since our last installation; and really, I offer my sincere apologies for being so lax in my account. You know how it is. Life keeps moving, you've gotta keep up. Things have certainly kept moving here. Not entirely in a positive sense-- biblical plagues can put a damper on things, but, hey, we pull through.

I'm taking today's "curse" [the quotations are indicated with finger gestures] as a bit of a peace offering, though. Really, it's almost as if the City doesn't want me to be homesick. Which I appreciate, sincerely.

And hey -- apparently, I'm an icon of the eighties. Really, I'd be more surprised about it, but I always suspected the decade and I had a special relationship.

[Ferris appears with a reassuring smile.]

Good afternoon, City. Ferris Bueller here with a helpful bit of advice to help you survive the day.

Do not attempt to adjust your set. The colors are that bright. To be honest, they're not really my personal style, but hey -- to each their own. I'm not about to get on anyone's case if Day Glo is their idea of a good look. You get used to it. Oh, and then there's the leather, the lace and the studs. I have to level with you there, all that hardware's a little bit too complicated for me.

As to my own personal tastes...

[He pulls on his beret.]

Well, I prefer the understated classics. It helps you maintain yourself as a free-floating individual, not pigeonholing yourself into a predefined social circle. It can be limiting, you know, letting your appearance define you before you have a chance to do it yourself based on your own personal views and merits.

I seem to have gotten off on a tangent. At any rate--

[He pauses to pull his glasses on and smirks at the camera.]

I'm going out to enjoy this choice day. Frankly, when the deities decide your era is the next stop on the time shuffle, you've just got to see for yourself what they do with it.

Thankfully, I don't have to worry about it. My era is eclectic.

I don't know why the City decided that anyone who'd participate in this curse would have to do it in the tackiest fashion of the time. Everyone's going to think it's awful.

Well, I wouldn't say any era isn't, really. People always are, but the City seems to be fond of the cliches.

When does your eclectic era happen to fall?

I think it has to do with making a caricature out of it. I mean, retro styles are always the most exaggerated, worst yet most easily recognizable examples of the time. I'll take it as a fond if misguided homage.

Say, when is it that you're from, exactly? I don't think I realized we shared a decade.

I guess I'll catch you in a couple decades, then.

The City does seem to be pretty fond of your era most of the time. Guess it must be nice to not have to make too much of an adjustment in that respect.

This is what things are like when you're from?

BOOOOYAAAAAAAAA hey don't i know you

Well, not exactly. I mean, a lot of it is somewhat exaggerated and over-the-top, but... it's not all that far off for some people. Whatever makes them happy, right? Try not to look directly at the more florescent hues.

I lived through the 80s. The 70s, too.
Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
That's a nice way of putting it. And here I was getting all comfy in the muted tones of the not-entirely-distant future.

So did the City gift you a new wardrobe or are you just enjoying the scenery?
Posted by [identity profile] to-the-lees.livejournal.com
I decided not to go for any of the really, uh, bright stuff I found in my drawer. And my collar won't stay down? But it's not so bad I guess.

It's normally not this bad. I mean, outside of the City, in the actual eighties. Well, except for the collars, of course... back in '82, they changed the stitching on shirts to prevent any tragic depopping.

I guess it'd have to be a little exaggerated; I mean, ten years is a pretty long time to squeeze into one day. And lately we seem to get one of these every month, though this time at least I don't really think I'm somewhere else.

Somewhen else? More accurate, but it isn't really a word...

Ouch... well, sorry to hear that.

Though, there's always a bright side? The City hasn't totally transformed, for instance. And it's not going to take ten years this time around.

Does seem to be a popular theme... though, you know, I think I liked those better. At least when I felt like I was actually in another time period, it was a full experience. Even if it was exaggerated, it was like getting to live a whole other life over a weekend.

I can't say that's something I can do anywhere else. Well. Not to that extent, at least.

It was about a month into '85 when I ended up here. I didn't know until now, myself, actually, that you were from the 80s.

I guess you're right about the fashion, though. Still, what a thing to be remembered for.

I'm from that long ago, yeah. Though, really, I don't think when you were born has much to do with your age here.
