Well, my dear friends, we have officially passed the two month mark. To show for it, I have a batch of new friends, a roommate, and a business plan.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, loyal friends and followers, that is correct; a business plan. Thanks to the gracious assistance of the fabulously helpful and charming Penny, I've even got a location. The whole job thing isn't really going to work out, with my working for someone, being expected to show up to one location every single day, after day, after day. Stuck in some stationary location... that won't do at all.

So. This business plan of mine is designed to help me and help others; I'll get to go out and see the City day after day, they'll get to see the sights, and in the process, maybe I'll catch myself a few new friends. I have to say, the one major strength the City has going for it is how helpful everyone is. But for all that, nobody's dedicated to actively showing people the City when they get here. That's where I come in.

Come to think of it, I have an announcement to make.

[end private]

[begin public video feed]

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, aliens, spacemen, vampires, werewolves, and other sentient entities of any variety who I may have not specifically mentioned - I assure you it's no attempt to make a personal slight, and I in no way intend to exclude any citizen of our smorgasbord metropolis.

I have an announcement.

Starting this week, I, Ferris Bueller, am pleased to offer a brand new service to the City -

Ferris Bueller's Official City Day Expeditions Unlimited

[He grins charmingly, pausing for a moment, then continues.]

We'll be operating out of the Welcome Center thanks to the most gracious Penny, and I will personally be offering guided tours. There are quite a few agendas I've prepared in advance that you can choose from, or I can tailor an official, patented Bueller Expedition for your personal preferences and tastes.

Whether you're a new arrival or if you just need a new perspective on your current prison-slash-dimension, a Bueller Expedition is just what you need for a memorable day out in the City.

Come on by. And if you have any questions, let me know?

Oh, and of course... if you yourself think you may be qualified to guide an adventure through the City, do let me know. I certainly hope that we'll need more than just me to run these things, eventually.

And everyone have a fantastic day.

[He beams one more time before cutting the feed.]

I guess I'll keep looking for a job before I take you up on your offer from a week ago.

What's the difference between aliens and spacemen?

Hey, don't sweat it. It may be a little on the self-defeating side, but hey, I don't mind spotting a relatively new arrival a day out.

Aliens would be from a different planet... I guess astronaut would be a better word than spacemen, but I can't help but feel like the space travelers the City's collected are probably a bit more advanced than that. At any rate, I'm just trying to cover all my bases. It can be a little tricky to keep up with the demographics here.

Really? I mean, it's okay, I can wait. I don't want to take away time from your business. It's a pretty cool idea for a job.

I'll say. I can only barely believe that it is so diverse here. Diverse in that way, anyway. And I get it, yeah. I was thrown off by it being right after aliens in your list.

Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
Of course. I mean, if you want. You can consider it a free sample if you prefer.

No kidding. I think we could have a heck of a cultural diversity day... parades, the whole nine yards. Actually, there's a thought in that. I get the confusion, though, I guess they just logically followed.

It'd be great! I'm still trying to figure out my way around and I'm sure you know about a lot of cool places.

You don't think they'd have one already? How long has this city been a city? Or...I guess you'd know better than me if they already had one.

augh, sorry, typo on first try XDD

I can certainly come up with a few must-see choice destinations.

I don't know. To be honest, I've actually only been here a couple of months. I've just gone straight into some heavy research. It's something to look into, at any rate. I mean, what sort of city doesn't have any special events?

No worries!

Posted by [identity profile] jumpsinthepool.livejournal.com
Well...I'm free any time. Still.

Maybe the curses are supposed to be the special events here. Though it is a bit weird to have a city without even a single parade.

Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
Well, you just say the word. I mean, any time really. Tomorrow, day after... really, any day you haven't been turned into anything that might prevent you from enjoying a day out and about.

I guess you could call them that, though I think they bring people together out of a sort of commiseration than anything else. I think what we need is some real community-building, a sense of fun. I see entirely too many people dwelling on how terrible it is to be stuck here and completely missing out on all the positive aspects. Not that it isn't their right to be annoyed at having been kidnapped and all, but really, that's no reason to make things worse for yourself.

Posted by [identity profile] jumpsinthepool.livejournal.com
Tomorrow sounds good.

It sure would make it a little nicer here. How do you go about getting a city with no officials to start an event like that? I don't know if the deities would be up for it...

on 2010-03-20 04:43 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
Then you can consider that a plan. Any specific interests I should cater to, or are you up for surprises and variety?

Maybe it's the sort of thing we can organize on our own. It's not like there's a lot of traffic to get out of the way or anything like that... well, it's something to think about, anyway.

on 2010-03-20 04:50 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] jumpsinthepool.livejournal.com
Interests...uh, no, surprise and variety is fine.

That would mean the parade would have to be pretty much entirely on foot. There isn't much you can do in terms of floats when there aren't any cars.

on 2010-03-21 04:25 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
Excellent! Consider yourself set to go.

Oh, I think there may be a few things that we could do about that. After all, there is a considerable chunk of the population who could probably use some kind of magic to keep it going. Oh well. That's something we can worry about later.

on 2010-03-21 05:33 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] jumpsinthepool.livejournal.com
We'll have to be really careful though, and make sure we don't step on anyone's toes with this. Some people might not be used to parades.

on 2010-03-22 09:58 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
True. It'll have to be run by the City as a whole, and we'll need a whole planning committee if we get enough support for it...

I bet I know a guy who can build a few floats, though.

on 2010-03-23 01:25 am (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] jumpsinthepool.livejournal.com
...right. Okay. We'll get support and advertise or something. To make sure that it's all above-ground.

Oh, yeah? That's lucky, then, I guess!

Guided tours? You been here long?

A couple of months, though I have made it my personal duty since arriving to get to know the City like the back of my hand.

Honestly, the main objective I'm going for here is to point out to people how much of the City is really worth seeing. Frankly, I think a lot of people get stuck on the negative, and while it's their right to feel that way and, really, I can completely understand being upset at being stuck anywhere... I feel like they're missing out on the upsides the City has to offer.

Well, aside from the fabulous populace full of charming, delightful individuals I've been privileged enough to meet, there are a considerable number of choice destinations. Entertainment venues, fine dining, museums, the zoo, the gardens, the library. Really, where else can you access the cultural offerings of countless worlds in one convenient pocket dimension?

This is such an amazing thing you're doing, Ferris! Maybe people will feel better about being here after they've seen some of the best things about the City.

Awesome sales pitch, too. You're good.

Ah, it's nothing, really. But I do hope that I can do something to lift the mood around here at least a little, I think the place has a lot going for it that people overlook. Which I understand, given that we're all here involuntarily, but still. No reason to make it worse on yourself.

And, well... I guess I'm alright. Thank you, though. I always appreciate a vote of confidence.

I think you're right. If you stop and think about it, the City's a pretty neat place--lots of different people and cultures, dragons and unicorns in the zoo, chances to see and do things that're totally unlike anything at home.

on 2010-03-22 09:56 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
Exactly. When else are most of us going to be able to see anything like that? When are any of us going to have access to this many worlds worth of culture?

Just because you're stuck doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy it as much as you can. Your mood doesn't affect how stuck you are, so you might as well have some fun.

I like your attitude, Ferris.

Well, I have to admit, I'm pretty fond of it myself. It's just served me well is all.

Really, though, that means a lot coming from you, given how much I admire your attitude. Which I do, incidentally.

People like people who like life. Of course it's served you well!

Aw, Ferris... thank you.

Will you give tours of the underground?

on 2010-03-21 04:38 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
Well, not immediately. I'm not sure that's the sort of thing I personally can really offer, given that I have a personal preference to not be ripped limb from limb if I'm given the option.

Hopefully, though, I can find someone who's a bit more gifted in combat or magic of some variety to offer them, eventually.

Posted by [identity profile] bufferprincess.livejournal.com
Good luck with that then. It's the only tour I'd be interested in.

on 2010-03-21 05:21 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
Well, I'll definitely be seeing what I can do. Not that there isn't plenty above ground that's certainly worth seeing at least once, but I'm not personally inclined to leave any of it untouched either.

I might look into the other tours, but I spent most of my first time in the City looking around at everything.

Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
Well, feel free to if you like, though frankly, I'm happy to hear that. It's always nice to hear from other people who are interested in actually seeing the place. It seems like a lot of people get hung up on the fact that they're stuck like worrying about it is going to help, you know?

By the way; Hi, I'm Ferris Bueller. How do you do?

on 2010-03-22 10:08 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] bufferprincess.livejournal.com
I agree. No one had updated the info on this place in years when I first got here.

Hey Ferris, I'm doing good.

I'm Di Di. How are you?

Posted by [identity profile] tenthsickday.livejournal.com
Now that's just a shame. Not that it's a small task, but it's certainly one that's worth undertaking. Though I'm personally of the belief that the best way to learn the City is to get out there and see it for yourself.

Well it's lovely to meet you, Di Di. And I'm doing fantastically, thank you for asking.
