5th day off • [ beat city now now ]
Mar. 19th, 2010 10:00 pm[video; private]
Well, my dear friends, we have officially passed the two month mark. To show for it, I have a batch of new friends, a roommate, and a business plan.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, loyal friends and followers, that is correct; a business plan. Thanks to the gracious assistance of the fabulously helpful and charming Penny, I've even got a location. The whole job thing isn't really going to work out, with my working for someone, being expected to show up to one location every single day, after day, after day. Stuck in some stationary location... that won't do at all.
So. This business plan of mine is designed to help me and help others; I'll get to go out and see the City day after day, they'll get to see the sights, and in the process, maybe I'll catch myself a few new friends. I have to say, the one major strength the City has going for it is how helpful everyone is. But for all that, nobody's dedicated to actively showing people the City when they get here. That's where I come in.
Come to think of it, I have an announcement to make.

[begin public video feed]
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, aliens, spacemen, vampires, werewolves, and other sentient entities of any variety who I may have not specifically mentioned - I assure you it's no attempt to make a personal slight, and I in no way intend to exclude any citizen of our smorgasbord metropolis.
I have an announcement.
Starting this week, I, Ferris Bueller, am pleased to offer a brand new service to the City -
Ferris Bueller's Official City Day Expeditions Unlimited
[He grins charmingly, pausing for a moment, then continues.]
We'll be operating out of the Welcome Center thanks to the most gracious Penny, and I will personally be offering guided tours. There are quite a few agendas I've prepared in advance that you can choose from, or I can tailor an official, patented Bueller Expedition for your personal preferences and tastes.
Whether you're a new arrival or if you just need a new perspective on your current prison-slash-dimension, a Bueller Expedition is just what you need for a memorable day out in the City.
Come on by. And if you have any questions, let me know?
Oh, and of course... if you yourself think you may be qualified to guide an adventure through the City, do let me know. I certainly hope that we'll need more than just me to run these things, eventually.
And everyone have a fantastic day.
[He beams one more time before cutting the feed.]

on 2010-03-20 02:20 am (UTC)What's the difference between aliens and spacemen?
no subject
on 2010-03-20 02:34 am (UTC)Aliens would be from a different planet... I guess astronaut would be a better word than spacemen, but I can't help but feel like the space travelers the City's collected are probably a bit more advanced than that. At any rate, I'm just trying to cover all my bases. It can be a little tricky to keep up with the demographics here.

on 2010-03-20 02:47 am (UTC)I'll say. I can only barely believe that it is so diverse here. Diverse in that way, anyway. And I get it, yeah. I was thrown off by it being right after aliens in your list.

on 2010-03-20 03:00 am (UTC)No kidding. I think we could have a heck of a cultural diversity day... parades, the whole nine yards. Actually, there's a thought in that. I get the confusion, though, I guess they just logically followed.

on 2010-03-20 03:14 am (UTC)You don't think they'd have one already? How long has this city been a city? Or...I guess you'd know better than me if they already had one.
augh, sorry, typo on first try XDD
on 2010-03-20 03:28 am (UTC)I don't know. To be honest, I've actually only been here a couple of months. I've just gone straight into some heavy research. It's something to look into, at any rate. I mean, what sort of city doesn't have any special events?
No worries!
on 2010-03-20 04:01 am (UTC)Maybe the curses are supposed to be the special events here. Though it is a bit weird to have a city without even a single parade.

on 2010-03-20 04:28 am (UTC)I guess you could call them that, though I think they bring people together out of a sort of commiseration than anything else. I think what we need is some real community-building, a sense of fun. I see entirely too many people dwelling on how terrible it is to be stuck here and completely missing out on all the positive aspects. Not that it isn't their right to be annoyed at having been kidnapped and all, but really, that's no reason to make things worse for yourself.

on 2010-03-20 04:39 am (UTC)It sure would make it a little nicer here. How do you go about getting a city with no officials to start an event like that? I don't know if the deities would be up for it...

on 2010-03-20 04:43 am (UTC)Maybe it's the sort of thing we can organize on our own. It's not like there's a lot of traffic to get out of the way or anything like that... well, it's something to think about, anyway.

on 2010-03-20 04:50 am (UTC)That would mean the parade would have to be pretty much entirely on foot. There isn't much you can do in terms of floats when there aren't any cars.
no subject
on 2010-03-21 04:25 pm (UTC)Oh, I think there may be a few things that we could do about that. After all, there is a considerable chunk of the population who could probably use some kind of magic to keep it going. Oh well. That's something we can worry about later.

on 2010-03-22 09:58 pm (UTC)I bet I know a guy who can build a few floats, though.

on 2010-03-23 01:25 am (UTC)Oh, yeah? That's lucky, then, I guess!

on 2010-03-20 04:39 am (UTC)Honestly, the main objective I'm going for here is to point out to people how much of the City is really worth seeing. Frankly, I think a lot of people get stuck on the negative, and while it's their right to feel that way and, really, I can completely understand being upset at being stuck anywhere... I feel like they're missing out on the upsides the City has to offer.

on 2010-03-21 04:35 pm (UTC)And, well... I guess I'm alright. Thank you, though. I always appreciate a vote of confidence.

on 2010-03-22 09:56 pm (UTC)Just because you're stuck doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy it as much as you can. Your mood doesn't affect how stuck you are, so you might as well have some fun.

on 2010-03-22 11:34 pm (UTC)Really, though, that means a lot coming from you, given how much I admire your attitude. Which I do, incidentally.
