It's been a while since our last installation; and really, I offer my sincere apologies for being so lax in my account. You know how it is. Life keeps moving, you've gotta keep up. Things have certainly kept moving here. Not entirely in a positive sense-- biblical plagues can put a damper on things, but, hey, we pull through.

I'm taking today's "curse" [the quotations are indicated with finger gestures] as a bit of a peace offering, though. Really, it's almost as if the City doesn't want me to be homesick. Which I appreciate, sincerely.

And hey -- apparently, I'm an icon of the eighties. Really, I'd be more surprised about it, but I always suspected the decade and I had a special relationship.

[Ferris appears with a reassuring smile.]

Good afternoon, City. Ferris Bueller here with a helpful bit of advice to help you survive the day.

Do not attempt to adjust your set. The colors are that bright. To be honest, they're not really my personal style, but hey -- to each their own. I'm not about to get on anyone's case if Day Glo is their idea of a good look. You get used to it. Oh, and then there's the leather, the lace and the studs. I have to level with you there, all that hardware's a little bit too complicated for me.

As to my own personal tastes...

[He pulls on his beret.]

Well, I prefer the understated classics. It helps you maintain yourself as a free-floating individual, not pigeonholing yourself into a predefined social circle. It can be limiting, you know, letting your appearance define you before you have a chance to do it yourself based on your own personal views and merits.

I seem to have gotten off on a tangent. At any rate--

[He pauses to pull his glasses on and smirks at the camera.]

I'm going out to enjoy this choice day. Frankly, when the deities decide your era is the next stop on the time shuffle, you've just got to see for yourself what they do with it.

Relax, I was just teasing.

Long as you're sure on that.

I mean, between you and me? A guy could really get to feel dated here, easy.

Very sure.

You're only as old as you think you are? Lame, I know but hey, if it works.

Lame doesn't make it less true.

Personally, I don't see myself aging a day by that definition.

What magical number do you want to be your age then?

Well, eighteen is working out pretty well for me at the moment. I think I'm alright with sticking with it.

Fun. You're just a bit older then me.

Oh yeah? In general, I think it's a good age to be-- or to be close to. Enough freedom in both respects - not too much responsibility yet to bog you down, yet old enough to pursue your own interests.

Really, I think we've got the best deal, winding up here at this age.

True, though it's a bit of a waste when you go home. It's like you never left at all.

Gotta say, that part's okay with me. Means nobody's going to be hunting for me when I don't show up for school again. Really, I'd just rather be stuck here at eighteen than forty.

So you're the rebellious type?

Well, I guess you could put it that way. I tend to think of myself as an independent thinker.

Really, as far as school goes, the place is just better suited to psychosocial experimentation than actually learning anything relevant. I'd rather get out and experience life for myself than memorize a slew of data that doesn't and never will have anything to do with my existence.

Sounds like you have things figured out then.

Life experiences are always good, just when they don't get you killed.

I like to think so. I've got a strong basis and an open mind, if nothing else.

And believe me, I'm quite attached to my state as a living, corporeal individual. I have no intention of letting anything change that.

Life is dangerous outside those walls. You could call them buffers.

Guess you could... but most of life happens outside of walls. I'm not about to sit back and miss out on living because I'm afraid of what might happen.

You're not like most people.

Yeah, I guess not.

That's alright, though. I'm happy being an unusual specimen.
